Michael Martin began his real estate career in September 2001 while still working full time in corporate America. With the events of 911, the birth of a child and a desire to persue a real estate career, he resigned his corporate position of 10 years in June of 2002  and never looked back.

To get his feet wet, Michael began working for Open House Realty in Greenville, SC in 2002.  He quickly achieved success and was named top sales and listing agent with the company in 2002, 2003 and 2004.

Soon Michael began to envision his ultimate dream job in real estate which took roots as a young child. “My grandparents lived on a large estate on Saluda Lake in Greenville. We spent many days on the lake with family and friends just swimming, skiing and socializing. My grandparents then purchased a place on Lake Hartwell in Anderson, SC in the late 60’s. My uncle’s and aunt’s would all come into town and we would all take off to Hartwell for the day. I can remember not being able to fall asleep the night before because I was so excited”. Then, in the fall of 1994 I met my wife who is also a lake enthusasists and grew up with family on Lake Keowee.  She was surprised that I had never been on Lake Keowee”.

“My first visit to Lake Keowee was in the spring of 1995. I was blown away by the beauty of the lake, the backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the emerald green waters. Ten years later, The Lake Company was founded on March 9, 2005. “I was going to open the doors on March 1 but my wife’s birthday and our engagement date is on March 9th so I figured that might bring me some good luck by waiting eight more days.”

Michael exclusively sells Lake Jocassee and Lake Keowee. He consistently ranks in the top 1% of agents in his association which are comprised of over 1000 agents. The key to his success is knowledge. “I have walked over 1300 lots on Lake Keowee and have detailed information on each one. A potential client whether it is a Buyer or Seller wanting to list their property needs current market information. They want to be educated now more than ever.”

Michael’s passion for Lake Keowee is obvious. You can definitely say he lives where he works. Michael and his wife are proud owners of the most recognizable piece of property on Lake Keowee, “The Old Farmhouse at Highway 11”. Now surrounded by opulent homes, where only a few years ago it was all alone, it is one of the most admired and coveted and photographed focal points in the Carolina mountain landscape.
